Vonda M. Browne, 44, was found dead inside her Fort Walton Beach apartment at the Captains Quarters Apartments on January 14, 2019. The Fort Walton Beach Police Department discovered Browne in the early hours with apparent gunshot wounds, and the incident was immediately classified as a homicide.

Authorities identified Khalil Rashad, who was reportedly dating Browne at the time, as a person of interest. Rashad was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm; further charges were described as pending while investigators continued to develop the case. Browne’s ex-husband confirmed the dating relationship, and police characterized the death as an apparent domestic violence incident.
