Amaya Cruz was 17 when she was found dead just outside her family’s apartment in Oakland Park, Florida, on June 4, 2014. Family members described her as loving and caring with green eyes. A makeshift memorial was placed at the home after her death.

The medical examiner attributed fatal injuries to blunt-force trauma. Investigators arrested Amaya’s boyfriend, Bobby Scott Jr., who was 26 at the time, on a charge of first-degree murder. Authorities say Scott confronted Amaya outside the apartment after an argument by text; jealousy is reported as a suspected motive. Police allege Scott then acted as though he had discovered her injured and urged the family to call 911. Deputies pronounced Amaya dead at the scene and Scott was held without bond.

What information about Amaya’s last hours or witnesses has not yet been made public that could help explain what happened?
