On the evening of July 30, 2021, 69-year-old Freddie Lee Battle was shot and killed inside a home on Bethel Church Road in Macon, Georgia. Emergency services arrived just after 8:30 p.m., and the coroner pronounced Battle dead at the scene. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation.

After an interview with investigators, Christopher Leon Woods was taken into custody and booked at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He faced one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was being held without bond pending further proceedings.
