John Evers, 51, of Savannah, was shot and killed on May 20, 2019, during a reported home invasion on Fleming Loop Road in East Liberty County, Georgia. Authorities say the homeowner shot Evers during the incident, and Evers died as a result.
In the weeks after the shooting, law enforcement arrested two men in connection with the case. Christopher Grass was taken into custody June 12 by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and home invasion. Dustin Lax, also from Savannah, was arrested May 24 in Jasper County, South Carolina, on charges of murder, assault, and home invasion; he faced an additional charge in Jasper County related to the theft of a motor vehicle and was reported to have been captured after escaping from U.S. Marshals in Georgia. Both men were held at the Liberty County Jail in Hinesville.
