An early October 2018 domestic dispute in Mableton, Georgia, ended with 81-year-old Faye Spruell fatally shot in her own home. The conflict began after Spruell’s granddaughter, Jessica Adams, ended a five-year relationship with her live-in boyfriend, 26-year-old James Martin. Martin reportedly became violent the day before; Spruell had demanded he leave the house on Lane Drive.
Martin returned the next afternoon, forced his way back in armed with a gun, and shot Spruell. Family members say Spruell was likely trying to protect her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. After the shooting, Martin held Adams and her young daughter hostage; officers rescued them during a standoff, and Martin was shot and killed by police at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to examine the officer-involved shooting.
Did anyone in Mableton know the family or see activity on Lane Drive that week that could add detail to what happened?
