Darrin Bernard Barnes, 43, was shot and killed during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 6, 2018, at a party on Tanglewood Drive in Monroe, Georgia. The altercation at the gathering escalated into gunfire; Barnes, a Duluth resident, died at the scene. The Monroe Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in to investigate.

In the days after Barnes was killed, another man, Shaun Barfield, was also fatally shot in the same Tanglewood neighborhood, which prompted a broader investigation into both deaths. Authorities publicly identified 24-year-old Qumentiz Marquez McKibben as a suspect; initial reports linked him to Barnes but most later described him as a suspect in Barfield’s death. McKibben was captured May 22, 2018, by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Covington area and was held in the Newton County Jail. Officials said investigations into both shootings were ongoing and expected additional arrests, and they noted a possible connection between McKibben and Barnes’ death, but no definitive information has been released confirming any formal charge, trial, or conviction in Barnes’ murder.

Does anyone with knowledge of the Tanglewood Drive party or the neighborhood that night have information that could help clarify what happened to Darrin Barnes?
