Kelvin Willis was 39 when he was shot in the early hours of July 4, 2017, at an apartment building on Houston Avenue in Macon, Georgia. Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies found him unresponsive inside a unit in the 3400 block shortly after 12:30 a.m. He was transported to Navicent Health and pronounced dead.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation and worked the case for months. On April 26, 2018, investigators obtained warrants and arrested Tyrell Javon Jackson on a murder charge in connection with Willis’s death. The arrest represented a major development in the long holiday‑morning investigation.
