In the early morning hours of March 16, 2016, in Savannah, Georgia, 22-year-old Aahkil Heyward was shot and killed outside a residence after police responded to a ShotSpotter alert. Two other people at the scene — Lewis Heyward, 57, Aahkil’s father, and 53-year-old Tracy Taylor — were injured while trying to subdue the shooter; their wounds were described as non-life-threatening and they were treated and released from Memorial University Medical Center.
On March 18, 2016, investigators announced arrest warrants for 19-year-old Vernon Priester: one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Police said Priester was hospitalized in stable condition with serious injuries he allegedly sustained during the altercation, and that he would be arrested and taken to the Chatham County Detention Center after his release.
Are there witnesses or neighbors who recall hearing the early-morning disturbance on March 16 or who saw what happened outside that residence?
