In the early morning hours of January 6, 2015, 8-year-old Jaimel Anderson was killed inside an apartment at the Indian Oaks complex on East Church Street in Fort Valley, Georgia. Multiple gunshots were fired through the front door while Jaimel was reportedly playing video games in the living room; he was struck in the chest and leg and pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m.
Investigators concluded the shooting was not random but connected to a dispute involving Jaimel’s mother’s boyfriend, Dejad Williams, who lived in the apartment. Prosecutors said the confrontation arose from a drug debt owed by Williams. Murder warrants were issued for several people; Dennis Eason, 25, and Tevin Sams, 21, were among those charged, and Christian Whiffle was later identified as the person who fired the fatal shots through the door.
Williams was charged with second-degree murder under a Georgia law addressing child endangerment, accused of knowingly inviting the assailants to the apartment while Jaimel was inside and taking no steps to protect the child. A search of the apartment reportedly turned up a firearm and cocaine, prompting additional drug and weapons charges and a probation violation. Christian Whiffle was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison; appeals have been filed. Does anyone have information about the people involved or recollections from Fort Valley around that night?
