In the early morning hours of October 14, 1987, in Glynn County, Georgia, 47-year-old convenience store clerk Don Anderson was shot and killed during a robbery at his workplace. The assailant, Jimmy Fletcher Meders, entered the store with two other men; during the robbery Meders shot Anderson once in the chest and again in the head after Anderson had already fallen to the floor. Less than $40 was taken.
Meders was arrested later that same day. Investigators found bait money marked by the store manager in his wallet and the weapon used in the murder under his bed, and witness testimony linked him to the crime. In April 1989 Meders was convicted of armed robbery and malice murder, receiving life for the robbery and a death sentence for Anderson’s killing. His convictions and sentence were upheld through appeals.
Does anyone have memories of the store, the neighborhood, or any detail from Glynn County in 1987 that could add context to Anderson’s case?
