Zamir Williams, a 20-year-old African American man from Romeoville, Illinois, was found dead in the early morning of August 27, 2021, in the 700 block of Honeytree Drive. The Will County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased at 5:30 a.m. from an apparent gunshot wound after police responded to a shots-fired call at 2:04 a.m.

Romeoville police say the shooting followed an argument between Williams and 19-year-old Patrick Otchere, who was known to Williams. Authorities took Otchere into custody and charged him with second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and violation of bail bond. An autopsy was scheduled for August 28, 2021, and police and toxicology reports were expected to provide further details.

Anyone with information about the shooting or who knew Zamir is asked to come forward.
