Tramale Hooser, a 21-year-old African American man from Danville, Illinois, was fatally shot in Urbana on October 5, 2019. The shooting took place in the 700-block of East Colorado Avenue; Tramale was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital at 8:08 p.m. The initial circumstances were unclear and prompted a police investigation.

Investigators say Tramale was in a car at 703 Colorado Avenue intending to sell drugs when 25-year-old Kamryn Cheatham of Urbana entered the vehicle posing as a buyer. The encounter turned violent; Cheatham reportedly opened fire because he feared for his life, and Tramale fired back. Tramale succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses who were in the car testified about the chaotic scene.
