Walter Wilson, 32, was shot and killed at the Gretna Park Apartments on Gretna Boulevard on November 2, 2019. Officers who responded around 3:20 p.m. found Wilson, a resident of the complex, suffering multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified two brothers, Willie Slater, 37, and Harold Slater, 33, as the alleged shooters based on eyewitness statements. Detectives arrested both men at the same apartment complex; after arrest they reportedly confessed and led police to a black .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun believed to be the weapon used. Authorities said the shooting grew out of an ongoing dispute involving a woman and drugs, and noted both brothers had prior convictions for cocaine distribution.
Willie and Harold Slater were booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on second-degree murder charges and held without bail. Did anyone in Gretna know Walter or have information about tensions at the complex that day?
