A domestic argument in Church Point, Louisiana, turned deadly in the early morning of July 26, 2019. Joseph Moore, 68, who used a wheelchair after a prior leg amputation, was found inside the North Franques Street residence with a single gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics responded to a 4 a.m. ambulance call.
Officers identified his younger brother, 65-year-old Elvin Moore, as the suspected shooter. Investigators say a verbal dispute between the siblings escalated and a .22 caliber rifle recovered in the home was believed to be the weapon. Elvin Moore was arrested at the scene and booked on second-degree murder, held at the Acadia Parish Jail on $300,000 bond.
Court records show Elvin Moore later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and was awaiting sentencing scheduled for February 2021. Did anyone in Church Point know the Moore brothers or recall tensions between them leading up to July 26, 2019?
