A holiday weekend gathering in Monroe, Louisiana, ended in violence shortly after 1:30 a.m. on July 3, 2016. A large private event at the Monroe Civic Center was breaking up when a pre-existing dispute between two groups boiled over in the parking lot. A physical fight began and gunfire followed, wounding five people and killing 30-year-old Clay D. Smith and another man, Deatrick Wilson. Three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Monroe Police Department identified 24-year-old Jaterrious Dra Godfrey as one of the shooters based on witness statements and arrested him the Monday after the shooting. Godfrey was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Smith and Wilson and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm; he was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center with bond set at $650,000.

If anyone witnessed the fight or the shooting in the Civic Center parking lot that night, please share what was seen or heard.
