On the evening of September 4, 2014, a dispute over money at a car wash in Tallulah, Louisiana, ended with 26-year-old LaPatrick Mitchell shot and killed. Deputies from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived after a report of the shooting around 8:32 p.m.; Mitchell was taken to Madison Parish Hospital and pronounced dead.

Witnesses told investigators that Mitchell had argued with 26-year-old Rashard Neal about money, that Neal left the car wash and returned shortly afterward, and that Neal was seen shooting Mitchell. Neal was arrested the next day and charged with second-degree murder. At trial the defense challenged the eyewitness accounts and emphasized there was no murder weapon or other physical evidence linking Neal to the killing, but the jury convicted him on June 11, 2016, and he was sentenced five days later to life at hard labor with no parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

Does anyone have additional information about Mitchell’s life in Tallulah or details from the night of the shooting that could help clarify what happened?
