Jeffrey Scott Melvin, 35, was shot and killed in Clinton, North Carolina, on July 2, 2022. Officers found him around 2:30 a.m. on Kennedy Street, lying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say a group of people in a vehicle drove up, called Melvin over, then opened fire and sped away. Investigators describe the shooting as targeted rather than random.

Later that same day a separate drive-by shooting about a block away on Stetson Street wounded six people, including two children aged 17 months and older; police have not confirmed a link between the two attacks. No suspects in Melvin’s killing have been identified and no arrests have been announced. The Clinton Police Department is pursuing leads and asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
