Virgilio Kaius Johnny, a 44-year-old man of Pacific Islander descent, was found dead on June 8, 2016, in a grassy area at the Deaverview Apartments complex in Asheville, North Carolina. His body was discovered about 6:45 a.m., roughly nine hours after police had received a report of about 25 gunshots in the area; officers who responded earlier initially found nothing suspicious. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the number of gunshot wounds sustained.

Johnny had gone to visit friends in an apartment the night of June 7 and was expected to return shortly. He lived at Deaverview with his son and other family members; his wife had died about two months earlier. His death was the second killing at Deaverview and the seventh in Asheville since January 1, 2016. No arrests have been announced and investigators have not identified suspects. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact the Asheville Police Department.
