Thomas Lee Brewer, 61, was last seen on January 19, 2013, in Marathon, Florida, when he departed aboard a 35-foot white-hulled sailing vessel named Blondie with companion William Vernon Smith. The two men told friends they planned to sail to the Caribbean, possibly Jamaica, but neither man nor the boat was heard from after they left. Brewer, who was in poor health at the time, left without any further indication of plans.
Family reported both men missing on March 1, 2013. A U.S. Coast Guard search turned up no trace of Brewer, Smith, or Blondie, and investigators found no evidence the vessel reached any foreign ports. Authorities presume the two were lost at sea, but circumstances remain unclear. The Marathon Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continue the investigation, and Brewer’s case is classified as lost/injured missing.
Did anyone in the Keys or the Caribbean region see Blondie or know of plans that could explain what happened to Brewer and his companion?
