Matthew David Stinson, 25, was found slumped over in the stairwell of his apartment building on Wesley Avenue in Elyria, Ohio, and pronounced dead at the scene on September 17, 2014. He was born July 21, 1989, in Kansas City, Kansas, lived in Elyria since infancy, worked as a painter in Lorain County, and is survived by his children, his fiancée, and extended family.

The investigation identified 30-year-old Jeremy Diestler of Grafton, Ohio, as the person responsible for Matthew’s death. Diestler was arrested and charged with aggravated murder, felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm, tampering with evidence, and improper handling of a firearm. Prosecutors said Diestler shot Matthew 10 times with two separate guns in the stairwell after a dispute over heroin purchases and quality.

Matthew’s parents, Catherine and William Stinson, and his children attended the trial and sentencing. The court imposed a lengthy prison term on Diestler. If anyone knew Matthew, his movements that night, or has information about the case, please share what you know.
