Tevin D. Thrower was 21 when he was found shot to death outside an apartment building in the 1300 block of East 82nd Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 31, 2014. His killing was the city’s last homicide of that year.

Described as hardworking, Thrower held two jobs — days at Science City at Union Station and nights stocking shelves at a local Wal‑Mart. Family and acquaintances said he was not involved in illicit activity that might explain why someone would target him, a detail that deepened the mystery around the shooting.

Police reported few leads early on and investigators were frustrated by a lack of witnesses or street information.
