David Daniel Young Jr, a 21-year-old Black man, was one of two men killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in the 200 block of West Wintergreen Road in DeSoto, Texas, on December 8, 2019. Police were called about 7:50 p.m. reporting a home invasion with several unknown people allegedly rushing into the dwelling. Officers found two men dead at the scene, including 43-year-old William Leon Smith; three other men were treated at hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives have not been able to confirm the home invasion account and say they are still determining the exact sequence of events. The DeSoto Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office are processing evidence and continuing the investigation. No arrests or suspects have been identified and the names of the injured have not been released.
