Cameron Taye Brooks was a 19-year-old Tyler Junior College student who was shot and killed on September 21, 2017, in the parking lot of Highland Village Apartments in Longview, Texas. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots about 1 a.m., and Brooks was found shortly afterward. His death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators arrested 23-year-old Dominique Shaquille Harvey of Longview; Harvey was indicted in November 2017 and later pleaded guilty to Brooks’s murder. In June 2019 Harvey received a 70-year prison sentence and had been held on a $500,000 bond since his arrest. The case attracted significant attention in the Longview community because of the student’s death and the impact of gun violence on families and neighborhoods.
