Layla Ann Ramos was 14 when she was found shot and killed inside the home of 43-year-old homeowner Anthony Valle on July 20, 2017. Valle initially told investigators he had shot an unknown intruder, but investigators reported inconsistencies in his account.
Homicide investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office charged Valle with murder and brought additional charges of indecency with a child. Valle’s defense attorney argued he acted in self-defense under the Castle Doctrine, saying Valle believed he was defending himself from an intruder. Layla’s family rejected that explanation, accused Valle of luring her to his home, and pushed for answers while prosecutors sought to raise bail; Valle remained in the county jail in lieu of $105,000 bail as more witnesses came forward.
Anyone who knew Layla, her movements around July 20, 2017, or her relationship with Valle is asked to share what they know.
