William Ramos was a 30-year-old special agent with the DEA’s McAllen, Texas office who died on December 31, 1986. Ramos was working undercover in a sting targeting a large marijuana sale tied to Felipe Molina-Uribe, Jesus Garcia Nieto and others. The meeting was set in a supermarket parking lot in Las Milpas; Ramos arrived in an undercover government vehicle with two paid informants, Roberto Raul Ortiz and Ernesto Rodriguez-Ramirez.

A struggle over a revolver inside the undercover car erupted as Ramos attempted to arrest Molina-Uribe. Witness testimony describes Molina-Uribe gaining control of the weapon and firing a shot that struck Ramos in the chest. Ramos was taken to a McAllen hospital and pronounced dead at approximately 7:35 p.m.

Molina-Uribe was charged federally for the narcotics conspiracy and, separately, with murdering Ramos while the agent performed official duties; a jury convicted him of first-degree murder and a related firearm offense. The case later produced prolonged appeals and post-conviction litigation.

If anyone has information about Ramos, Ortiz, Rodriguez-Ramirez or events in Las Milpas that night, please share what is known.
