Charles Stewart, a 65-year-old African-American man, died after becoming trapped in a house fire on the evening of March 12, 2014, in the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue near J Street in Las Vegas. Las Vegas police and firefighters arrived at about 11 p.m. and found a single-story home secured with metal bars on the windows and a barred security door that impeded escape and rescue.

Officers used bolt cutters to free a woman who suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to University Medical Center. Firefighters later located Stewart in another part of the house after gaining entry. The Clark County coroner identified him as Charles Ray Stewart; the official cause and manner of death were not immediately released. Early reports did not describe the fire as suspicious, and no arrests or suspects have been reported. Twelve firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

If anyone knew Stewart or has information about conditions at that house or the night of the fire, please share what you know.
