On August 8, 2025, deputies responded to a home on South Palmer Avenue in Homosassa Springs after reports of a domestic disturbance and gunfire. Patrol units heard shots from inside; negotiators and tactical teams arrived and managed a hours-long standoff before the suspect surrendered. A juvenile who had been inside escaped and provided information to officers during the incident.
Inside the residence, authorities found 45-year-old Sadie Marie Gochis deceased from gunfire. Detectives identified and arrested 37-year-old Michael Lee McClellan at the scene; he was booked on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officials said no other suspects were being sought and described the episode as emotional and dangerous, noting containment prevented further loss of life.
Friends and family remembered Sadie as a devoted mother and generous presence, and community memorials and a fundraiser for her three children appeared in the days after her death. Does anyone who knew Sadie or was in the area that morning have information that could help explain what led to the shooting?
