Eight-year-old Kylen Khole Powell of Bainbridge, Georgia, was shot and killed at his grandmother’s house on Vada Road on the night of Friday, July 11, 2025. Deputies from Decatur County arrived about 11:40 p.m. and found Kylen unresponsive. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later assisted in the death investigation.

Investigators say a 13-year-old cousin fired the shot; that juvenile was arrested July 15, 2025, and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, then booked into the Decatur County Youth Detention Center. Kylen’s 49-year-old grandmother, Knisha Ann Perkins, was also arrested July 15 and charged with three counts of second-degree cruelty to children and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; she was booked into the Decatur County Jail. No adults were present during the shooting and a 1-year-old in the home was unharmed.

Authorities stated the investigation was ongoing and that findings would be sent to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review. If anyone was at the home that night or has information about what led to this shooting, please come forward.
