Marcus Cunningham Jr., 22, was found shot to death inside an apartment at the Autumn Trace Apartments on Rocky Creek Road in Macon, Georgia, on June 5, 2025. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office discovered Cunningham unresponsive with a gunshot wound. His father remembered him as a vibrant, funny, and respectful young man who was deeply connected to his family.

Within a month of the shooting, four people were arrested and charged with murder: 18-year-old Keino Shantez Bibbs, 35-year-old Alfonso Hyman, 17-year-old Darrell Stanley, and a 16-year-old whose name was not released because of his age. Stanley was taken into custody after a traffic stop in neighboring Jones County; Hyman and the 16-year-old were arrested at residences in Macon. The charging documents included malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and first-degree home invasion, indicating investigators treated the incident like a possible home invasion gone wrong.

The 16-year-old defendant was acquitted of all charges in October 2025. Cases against Bibbs, Hyman, and Stanley remained pending in the Bibb County court system with the District Attorney’s Office declining to comment on ongoing prosecutions.
