On the early morning of July 6, 2025, two women were fatally shot as they left the Fox Den nightclub on Wilmington Street in Jackson, Mississippi. One victim was 35-year-old Racquel Latrice Freeman; the other was 34-year-old Telisa Holder. Both women were reported to have been mothers, each leaving behind two children.
Investigators identified 31-year-old Lewis Powell as a person of interest and searched for him for weeks. Officers located Powell at a residence on Alta Vista Boulevard on July 29, 2025, and found him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound as they prepared to execute a felony arrest warrant. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry and will seek to determine whether the weapon used in Powell’s death was the same firearm used in the double homicide.
A makeshift memorial has been set up outside the nightclub by friends and community members. If anyone knew Racquel Freeman or has information about the shooting, please come forward with details that might help the investigation.
