Everett Nunn, a 58-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a police officer inside his Evansville, Indiana, home in the late hours of November 22, 2025. Police had responded after a 911 hang-up call from the residence; a dispatcher heard a disturbance and the caller said her husband and son were close to a physical altercation. A woman met the officer outside and said someone was going to jail and that there was a firearm in the house.

The officer entered the home and encountered Nunn holding a dark object. The officer ordered Nunn to drop it and then fired six times. Nunn was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital and pronounced dead. The object Nunn held was later determined to be a smoking device made to look like a gun; others in the room told the officer it was not a real firearm. The officer, with the Evansville Police Department since 2021 and prior law enforcement experience, was placed on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation proceeded. Body camera footage was released and the shooting prompted protests and vigils as friends and family demanded transparency. As of early December 2025, the internal probe was reported to be nearing completion and no arrests or criminal charges had been reported.

Did anyone in Evansville witness that night or have additional information about what happened inside the home?
