Germiane Allen, a 20-year-old man, was shot and killed on November 19, 2010, outside Allen Temple Baptist Church in East Oakland. He had been attending classes at the church as part of a transitional program to earn his high school equivalency diploma; after answering a phone call during class, he stepped outside and was found fatally shot near the cross outside the church. Two gunshots were heard and the assailant fled the scene; no arrests were made immediately and investigators reported few leads and witnesses willing to come forward.

The killing occurred the same day the church received a two-year grant to fund programs for men and boys of color, and leaders described the shooting as the first such incident on the church grounds in its long history. The death was one of 94 homicides in Oakland in 2010, and community memorials at St. Columba Catholic Church included a cross placed for Allen. If anyone knew Germiane, attended the church program, or has information about the shooting, please share what you know.
