Shawn Dauzat, 51, was shot and killed on February 8, 2026, inside the family’s recently purchased home in Liberty, Mississippi. Investigators say the shooting unfolded within his own family after a disciplinary incident: Dauzat had taken his 16-year-old son’s phone and gaming system, and witnesses described that punishment as the flashpoint that quickly escalated to gunfire, leaving Dauzat mortally wounded. The Amite County coroner had scheduled an autopsy; final findings were not yet available at the time of the report.
An arrest followed and the teen was charged with first-degree murder and held at the Amite County jail on $50,000 bond. Prosecutors reported the case had not yet been formally received by the district attorney’s office; it was expected to be presented to a grand jury, and officials said that if a homicide indictment is returned the teen could potentially be tried as an adult. Does anyone in the area have information about the family or witnessed events from that night?
