Seventeen-year-old Debra Debi Kent disappeared on the evening of November 8, 1974, after leaving a play at Viewmont High School in Bountiful, Utah to pick up her younger brother at a nearby roller-skating rink. Her parents discovered the family car still in the school parking lot when the play ended. Witnesses reported screams from the parking lot and one person saw a light-colored Volkswagen Beetle speeding away. A handcuff key found at the school matched the handcuffs used in a separate abduction attempt that same day in Murray, Utah.
Investigators linked the two crimes to law student Ted Bundy after Carol DaRonch identified him as her attacker; evidence from Bundy’s apartment placed him in the Bountiful area. In January 1989, shortly before his execution, Bundy confessed to abducting and murdering Debi, saying he had taken her from the Viewmont parking lot, brought her to his home, then disposed of her remains in the Fairview Canyon area. A human kneecap recovered during a search of the area was later returned to Debi’s family, and in 2015 advanced DNA testing confirmed the patella belonged to Debra Kent, closing the case. The rest of her remains have never been recovered.
Did anyone who attended the Viewmont play or lived near the school in 1974 ever notice a light-colored Volkswagen Beetle or unusual activity that night?
