On the afternoon of April 11, 2026, 30-year-old Latrell Williams of Alsip, Illinois, was fatally shot while seated in his car at the intersection of 167th Street and Cicero Avenue in Oak Forest. The shooting happened about 4:47 p.m. Williams was with his girlfriend when another vehicle pulled up alongside in the left-turn lane and an occupant opened fire, striking him multiple times on the left side of his body. An off-duty medical professional provided aid before paramedics transported Williams to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators from the Oak Forest Police Department, the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Illinois State Police worked the case. Authorities allege the two suspects followed Williams prior to the shooting. Edward Bass, 32, and Khalil Powell, 30, both of Chicago, were arrested—Bass the day of the shooting and Powell the next day. Prosecutors allege Bass was the shooter and Powell drove the getaway vehicle.

Bass and Powell have been charged with first-degree murder and were scheduled for a pretrial release hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse. If anyone witnessed the shooting, the pursuit, or has information about Williams that could help the case, please share what is known with investigators.
