Philip DiMartino, 36, was found brutally murdered in his Hayes Valley apartment on Hermann Street; his body was discovered August 2, 2010 after a co-worker reported him missing from work. Authorities believe he was most likely killed on July 30, 2010. DiMartino, a senior marketing manager for Archstone, had been stabbed 48 times, mostly in the back, with enough force to break some ribs.

There were no signs of forced entry, which led investigators to consider that he may have known his attacker. DNA thought to belong to the suspect was recovered at the scene, and police suspect the perpetrator may have cut themselves during the attack. No arrests have been announced; the Mayor’s office offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution.

DiMartino was openly gay and frequented the Castro; on the night he is believed to have been killed he had told co-workers he planned to visit Badlands bar. Family and friends describe him as kind-hearted and continue to seek justice. If anyone has information about his movements that weekend or about who he might have let into his apartment, please come forward to the San Francisco Police Department.
