Mike Menard, 32, was fatally shot on July 8, 2026, in the pre-dawn hours while seated in his white sedan parked outside his parents’ home on Northwest 13th Court in Fort Lauderdale. Police were dispatched after a ShotSpotter alert at about 4:25 a.m. and surveillance footage shows him taking out the trash, returning to his car, and moments later a gunman running up to the driver’s side and opening fire before fleeing to a getaway car. Several nearby vehicles were also struck.

Born in Haiti and raised in the U.S. from age three, Menard had earned a criminal justice degree from the University of Central Florida and had worked at a law firm before recently losing that job. He was a father to a five-year-old daughter. His family reports a string of menacing incidents in the days before the killing — a tree set on fire and their home being riddled with bullets — which they believe point to a targeted attack.

Homicide detectives have the surveillance video and Menard’s cellphone, which the family turned over, but no suspects or arrests have been publicly identified. Can anyone with information about activity near Northwest 13th Court that morning or who recognizes the assailant seen on camera help investigators?
