On the evening of July 4, 2026, a celebration in Grand Prairie, Texas, ended in gunfire in an alley in the 5000 block of Red River Trail. Robert Tovar, 35, was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 11:45 p.m. He was taken by Grand Prairie Fire Department medics to Medical City Arlington but died of his injuries.
Tovar, known as Porky to friends and family, was born in Dallas and raised in Grand Prairie. He is survived by his mother Diana Araujo, father Ramiro Tovar, stepmother San Juana Luna, five siblings, his daughter Eileen Arianna Marin, and several nieces and nephews. Family members remembered him for a generous spirit, loyalty, warmth and humor.
Detectives say the shooting followed a fight between Tovar and 20-year-old Eduardo Jaime of Cedar Hill; Jaime allegedly produced a handgun and shot Tovar, then fled but was quickly arrested by responding Grand Prairie officers. If anyone witnessed the incident or knew Tovar and can help investigators, please come forward with information.
