On the afternoon of June 25, 2026, a daylight shooting in Chicago’s Near West Side killed 41-year-old Orlando Tobias. The shooting happened about 2:40 p.m. in the 500 block of South Claremont Avenue as Tobias was exiting his vehicle. Another car pulled up and multiple people inside opened fire; Tobias was hit three times, in the stomach and leg.
Paramedics transported Tobias to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity. The Chicago Police Department opened a homicide investigation, but in the days after the shooting no arrests had been made, no suspects publicly identified, and no motive released.
This remains an unsolved daytime killing that left a family grieving and a neighborhood seeking answers. If anyone witnessed the shooting or has information about the events on South Claremont Avenue that afternoon, please come forward.
