Byron DaCameron Cherry, 26, was brought to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth on June 16, 2026, after suffering two gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Despite emergency treatment he died; the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity and ruled the death a homicide.
Fort Worth homicide detectives opened an investigation but, in the initial days, the precise location of the shooting was not known. Investigators focused on interviewing the people who transported Cherry to the hospital because those interviews could help establish where the shooting occurred. No arrests or suspects had been publicly identified in the early phase of the inquiry, and police asked the public for information.
An online obituary described Cherry as outgoing and humorous, remembered for a bright smile and an infectious laugh that left a lasting impression on family and friends. The investigation remains open.
If anyone saw or heard anything related to Cherry’s shooting on the night of June 16, 2026, or knows who transported him to the hospital, please share what is known with the Fort Worth Police Department.
