Murielle Guay, a 19-year-old CEGEP student, was reported missing after last being seen on April 17, 1982, at the Bar América on St-Laurent Street in Montreal in the company of a new male acquaintance. On April 27, a pedestrian found her dismembered body in a wooded area of Mille-Îles northwest of the city.
Investigators quickly focused on American fugitive William Dean Christensen, who was in Montreal at the time and had been released from a Montreal prison two weeks before the discovery. Christensen was identified as a suspect after the same day’s discovery of another dismembered victim, 27-year-old Sylvie Trudel; Canadian authorities issued warrants but Christensen had already returned to the United States. He was later arrested there, convicted for violent crimes in the U.S., and died in U.S. custody on October 31, 1990. Canadian charges in the Montreal cases were reportedly dropped and the file was closed in August 1984.
Murielle Guay’s murder remains officially unsolved with the Sûreté du Québec. If anyone knew Murielle, saw her on April 17, 1982, or has information about her movements or the man she left with that night, please come forward.
