Seventeen-year-old Shirley Stewart disappeared after finishing a shift as a maid at the Dean Clinic on the evening of January 2, 1980, in Madison, Wisconsin. Family and friends waited more than a year and a half with no sustained leads until her remains were located on July 16, 1981, in a wooded area in the town of Westport, just north of Madison. The body was concealed by brush and so decomposed the coroner could not establish a precise cause of death; investigators and the community regard the circumstances as consistent with homicide.

Shirley’s death became part of the wider set of unsolved slayings known locally as the Capital City Killings. Notorious killer Henry Lee Lucas at one point confessed to her murder and to others in the region, but those claims were later discounted and he is not considered a viable suspect in this case. No other suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been made.

Does anyone who lived in Madison or Westport at the time recall Shirley, her work at the Dean Clinic, or any unusual activity in the area around January 1980?
