Ronald C. Hill, 35, was fatally shot shortly after midnight on August 16, 2026, on Chicago’s West Side. The shooting happened about 12:02 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Cermak Road in North Lawndale, near Cermak Road and Kolin/Keeler avenues. Hill was standing outside when a group of people approached and someone in that group produced a firearm and opened fire, striking him in the chest. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead; the Cook County Medical Examiner later identified him.
Police say the group fled the scene in an unknown direction. Authorities have not said whether Hill knew any of the individuals who approached him, and no detailed description of the shooter or the others in the group has been released. Investigators also have not publicly disclosed whether surveillance footage, witnesses, shell casings, or a firearm were recovered. Area Four detectives are handling the inquiry, and police reported that nobody was in custody; as of August 25, 2026, no arrest or charges have been announced.
The motive and the identity of the person who shot Hill remain unknown. If anyone knew Ronald Hill or witnessed the incident near Cermak and Kolin/Keeler around midnight on August 16, what information can be shared with detectives?
