Mary Lidguerre, a 30-year-old Indigenous woman, was last seen on July 7, 1995, after living and working in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Contemporary records describe her as involved in the sex trade around Main and Hastings and struggling with cocaine dependence. Attempts in 1995 to register her disappearance encountered resistance; outreach worker Freda Ens testified that an initial report was refused.

Skeletal remains found on Mount Seymour on August 16, 1996 were identified by dental records in 1997 as Lidguerre’s. Investigators could not establish a definitive cause of death from the recovered remains, and no one has been charged in connection with her death. Her disappearance was examined alongside three 1995 Fraser Valley killings—known as the Hemlock Valley or E-Valley murders—but investigators and later reviews concluded her case might not be linked to those homicides. Two earlier prime suspects, including one later cleared by DNA and Robert Willy Pickton, were eliminated by subsequent testing.

What information do readers have about Lidguerre’s last movements in the Downtown Eastside or anyone who may have transported her to Mount Seymour?
