I keep thinking about how Jason MacCullough was on his way back from just another day, probably looking forward to the future he was working so hard for. It's gut-wrenching to imagine such a promising life snuffed out in an instance of apparent random violence. The fact he used that path so often, a shortcut many young people take in trusted neighborhood shortcuts, makes it even harder to comprehend. What's baffling is the presence of potential witnesses. I can't help but wonder what holds these individuals back from saying what they know. If some fear is part of that silence, police assurance and community support could help ease that. Local people have to feel empowered to come forward without fear of repercussions. I hope those who might have seen something can find the courage to speak up on Jason's behalf. The community needs closure, and above all, Jason's family, who have endured this unimaginable loss for more than 20 years. Knowing there’s a reward in place is encouraging, but let’s not forget that it's courage and shared humanity that can truly drive someone's decision to help solve this. Sending strength to those who haven’t given up on bringing justice for Jason.
