I've been following Janine Renée Wesaquate-Oakes' case for some time now, and it's heartbreaking how the family is still without answers after all these years. Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the role of the community in these situations. Living in a place like Regina, where the Indigenous community is so close-knit, it’s hard to imagine that no one knows anything about what happened that night. Sometimes, bringing justice isn't just the work of the law enforcement but also relies heavily on the courage of everyday people who might hold a piece of the puzzle. I'm hoping that someone with even the slightest bit of information finds the strength to come forward. Let's not let Janine’s story be forgotten and continue spreading awareness in hopes that the family can find some form of closure. They deserve to know the truth.
