Barry Bucky Kephart was 11 when he vanished from Albuquerque on August 22, 1981. He was last seen after leaving a note for his parents saying he was going to a friend’s house and would return soon, but he never came back and was not reported missing until two days later.
Barry’s sister later said she heard their father, Barry Sr., beating him the night he disappeared and that Barry Sr. had a history of abuse. The sister also said Barry, who was dyslexic, would not have written the note himself. Investigators who reopened the case in 1994 concluded Barry had likely been killed by his parents and that his body may have been disposed of, possibly in a dumpster near the family’s apartment, but his remains have never been found. No charges were filed; the statute of limitations in New Mexico at the time expired in 1996. Barry’s mother died in 2005 and his father has denied involvement.
What information do readers have about the Kephart family or that neighborhood in 1981 that could help clarify what happened to Barry?
