A violent confrontation in a northeast Houston driveway ended the life of 34-year-old Emanuel Carrillo on the morning of May 21, 2016. The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of McDaniel Street after a man arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend and confronted Carrillo, who was dating her. The two men were in the driveway when the ex-boyfriend produced a gun and shot Carrillo, who died at the scene.

A third man who had been inside the house then grabbed a firearm and shot the ex-boyfriend; that man was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive. Houston police homicide detectives interviewed witnesses and publicly said jealousy may have been the motive. As of May 2016 the investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been announced.
