Kalab Blake Whitworth was 18 when he was killed after a single gunshot at a crowded house party in Attalla, Alabama, in the fall of 2019. The party reportedly had more than 100 people in attendance; the shot was described as random and also wounded a woman from Crossville. Whitworth was an unintended victim, struck during an altercation that escalated into gunfire.
Authorities identified 20-year-old Kavion Delynn Smallwood of Centre as the primary suspect. He was located in a wooded area in Cherokee County and taken into custody without incident. Smallwood was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and charged with murder and second-degree assault. In November 2021 an Etowah County grand jury indicted him on reckless murder, accusing him of causing Whitworth’s death through extreme indifference to human life.
Does anyone who attended that party or knew Kalab have information that could clarify what sparked the altercation?
