Jamel Peppins was 26 when he was shot in Fairfield, Alabama, on the evening of March 15, 2019. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 500 block of Seminole Circle after reports of gunfire and found Peppins with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital but died of his injuries. He is remembered as a loving father, son, brother, and friend.

Investigators later noted a possible connection between Peppins’ killing and two other slayings: on April 3, 2019, Deshawn Jackson, 20, and Tre vion Marks, 21, were found shot to death inside a vehicle behind a residence on the 6600 block of Tensaw Court. Authorities publicly said they believed the three murders were linked to illegal drug activity. Crime Stoppers circulated photos and appealed for tips, but no arrests in Peppins’ death have been announced and the investigation remains ongoing.
